City police responded to an attempted armed robbery at Cash Money in south-end Barrie last night.
The incident occurred at 7:53 p.m., Dec. 7, at the financial services business on Mapleview Drive West near Highway 400 on Thursday evening.
Police say the suspects did not obtain any money in the attempted robbery and “left empty-handed.”
Barrie police say officers determined, upon arrival, that the people responsible were no longer on the scene. A perimeter was established to allow for a possible canine track to take place.
Officers also used a drone, or remotely piloted aircraft system, to search for the suspects, but were unable to locate them.
“Police were able to determine that the suspects fled in a motor vehicle that had been parked nearby after the attempted robbery,” police said in a news release.
In a call to Cash Money on Mapleview Drive West by BarrieToday, management there confirmed their location was the business that was targeted by the would-be thieves, but would not offer any further information at this time.
Through surveillance video obtained from businesses in the area, police say they have been able to determine they are searching for two suspects who are described as:
Suspect No. 1: White male wearing black and white Nike shoes, black pants, black balaclava and a black jacket. He was carrying a small sledgehammer with a wooden handle.
Suspect No. 2: White male wearing black balaclava, black boots, black backpack with some shape of a logo on it. He was carrying a black handgun.
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area Thursday night and may have witnessed any suspicious activity, vehicles or people, or may have dash-cam video, to contact the Barrie police at 705-725-7025, ext. 2129.
