Barrie police have released this surveillance image after furniture was stolen from the front porch of a Wellington Street East home on Wednesday morning.

A thief went the whole nine yards early this morning by removing several pieces of furniture from the front porch of a downtown Barrie home.

City police say the theft, which was captured on surveillance video, happened between 3:15 a.m. and 3:58 a.m. on Sept. 18 at a Wellington Street East residence, located just east of Bayfield Street.

"When you hear the term 'porch pirate,' it is often associated with someone who steals a parcel that has been left by a delivery company on your porch," Barrie police stated in a news release. "Early this morning, the term took on a new meaning and, sadly, this theft is one that anyone who has furniture on their porch should be aware of."

The stolen items include a dark blue bench with a matching chair, both of which have grey arm rests, and a small glass table with green legs.

"The video clearly shows an unknown male entering upon the porch and stealing the items, which were easily carried away from the home while the homeowner slept," police say.

The suspect is described as a white male who was wearing a dark hoodie, dark-coloured shorts and shoes or low-cut boots that appear to have a white sole.

Anyone with information that could help identity the culprit is asked to call Barrie police at 705-725-7025.
