Barrie police armed with taser arrest man at crash scene

One person arrested for impaired driving following three-vehicle collision near Big Bay Point Road and Yonge Street

A Barrie police officer unholstered a taser and pointed it at one of the drivers involved in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in the city's south end.

BarrieToday has been unable to confirm whether the taser was deployed on the person, but there also appeared to have been a struggle involving several officers during the arrest.

A Barrie police official says more information is expected to be released on Friday.

The crash happened around 3 p.m., Nov. 23, in the area of Big Bay Point Road and Yonge Street.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Jennett Mays told BarrieToday that officers had responded to a three-vehicle collision.

"It appears that there were minor injuries and one (person is) in custody for impaired,” she said.

No other information has been made available by police.

Anyone with information is asked to call Barrie police at 705-725-7025.
