Barrie police respond to dinnertime stabbing in city's south end

Man stabbed at Pickett Crescent home Sunday night; Woman charged with assault with a weapon, assault caused bodily harm and weapons dangerous

A 32-year-old man was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries Sunday evening.

Barrie police responded to a call to a home on Pickett Crescent in the city’s south end, near Big Bay Point and Huronia roads, around the dinner hour on April 18 where they located a man who had been stabbed.

City police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said the man, who was of no fixed address, was taken by paramedics to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre before being transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre for medical treatment.

“At the scene, police arrested a 28-year-old female, also of no fixed address, and she has been charged with assault with a weapon, assault caused bodily harm and weapons dangerous,” he said. “The two know each other.”

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Leon said there were other people in the home at the time, who officers spoke with while on scene.

“We held the scene while we obtained a search warrant to locate evidence that was believed to have been in the home and that is now complete," he added.

Leon said there have been no updates on the victim’s condition and the incident is considered to be isolated.

“There was no issue or concern at any time for public safety,” he said, adding no information as to what prompted the assault has been released.
