BARRIE POLICE SERVICE

On Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, a sworn member of the Barrie Police Service was charged with criminal harassment and extortion in relation to events that occurred while off-duty between the years 2016 and 2018. The charges stem from conduct toward another member of the Service.
In July 2021, Chief of Police Kimberley Greenwood learned of the off-duty allegations and ordered an investigation into the conduct of the officer, who was immediately suspended from duty with pay in accordance with Section 89(1) of the Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990. An investigation by the Barrie Police Service’s Professional Standards Unit resulted in the two criminal charges laid.
Sgt. Bruce Gardiner, an 18-year member of the Barrie Police Service, is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie, Ont., on Monday, March 7, 2022 and remains suspended from duty with pay pending the outcome of this matter.
“The Barrie Police Service takes all allegations of misconduct by our officers very seriously. We hold all our members to the highest standards, on and off-duty, and we are committed to remaining transparent and accountable,” said Chief Kimberley Greenwood.
Now that this matter is before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Barrie Police Service will respectfully refrain from providing any further comments.
