A Barrie resident has been charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop in Springwater Township on Wednesday evening.

Huronia West OPP say the Barrie resident was among two people arrested and charged with impaired within one hour, between 7 and 8 p.m., on June 26.

Shortly after 7 p.m., police say they responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Yonge Street South in Elmvale.

The vehicle was later located and stopped on County Road 27 and, after the investigation, the driver was arrested.

Nikita Nelson, 34, of Barrie, has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired (alcohol and drugs). The accused is scheduled to appear in Collingwood court on July 23 to answer to the charge.

Roughly an hour later, just after 8 p.m., Huronia West OPP says officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Concession 10 Nottawasaga in Clearview Township when a vehicle entered the checkpoint. After an investigation, the driver was arrested.

Trevor Lawson, 25, of Collingwood, has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired (alcohol and drugs). The accused is scheduled to appear in Collingwood court on July 28.

None of the allegations against either of the accused have been tested in court and they are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
