A Barrie woman who pleaded guilty to three counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm following a December 2022 crash in front of Sadlon Arena will have to wait another week before learning when a judge will decide her fate.
A lawyer for Cassie Korzenko, who was 32 years old when she was charged, appeared in case management court via Zoom this morning (Jan. 24). Her next appearance is Wednesday, Jan. 31, when it's expected a date will be set for a sentencing hearing.
Korzenko appeared virtually in an Orillia courtroom on Jan. 16 to face the charges and enter a plea to charges related to a crash on Dec. 1, 2022, which saw three people suffer serious injuries after being struck outside Sadlon Arena in Barrie’s south end, at Mapleview and Bayview drives.
Korzenko was arrested at the scene and charged.
Barrie city police said Korzenko was driving her vehicle south on Bayview Drive when she struck the pedestrians and then also collided with two other vehicles, whose occupants were uninjured.
Empower Simcoe community support worker Melanie Smith, 52, as well as two middle-aged men named Sean and Jeff, who receive support from the organization and are involved with Special Olympics, suffered serious injuries from the crash.
The organization provides services to people with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Following her arrest, Korzenko spent nearly two months in custody before being released on bail Jan. 25, 2023.
