A Barrie woman charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm after three people were struck outside Sadlon Arena last winter will have see her case return to court in just under two months.
A worker from Empower Simcoe and two men who use its services suffered serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle at Mapleview and Bayview drives in the city's south end on Dec. 1, 2022. They were on their way to a Barrie Colts game when they were struck.
The organization provides services to people with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Cassie Korzenko, 32, was arrested the scene and charged with three counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm.
Korzenko appeared in court on Wednesday and will be brought back at the beginning of July. She also has a judicial pretrial schedule set for June 28, but will be back in a Barrie court on July 5 for further case management.
Barrie police allege Korzenko was driving her vehicle southbound on Bayview Drive when it struck the pedestrians and then collided with two other vehicles, whose occupants were uninjured.
None of the allegations have been tested in court.
Korzenko had been in custody until Jan. 25 as she awaited bail to be posted.
In early January, Empower Simcoe announced the three people had been released from Toronto hospital and had returned to Barrie to recover.
The crash victims include Empower Simcoe community support worker Melanie Smith, 52, as well as two middle-aged men named Sean and Jeff, who receive support from the organization. The two men have also been involved with Special Olympics.
BarrieToday was unable to obtain an update on their recoveries Wednesday afternoon prior to publication time.
