Police are urging drivers to be aware of black ice after two collisions happened around the same time and location this morning in Innisfil.
At about 7:35 a.m. on Nov. 21, South Simcoe police were contacted by a driver who saw the collisions on 5th Sideroad near Georgian Downs.
The first vehicle, a grey Buick, was southbound when it began to slide into the east-side ditch before landing on its roof. The driver was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, according to police.
At about the same time, a white Chevrolet Malibu was being driven in the same direction when it began to slide on black ice, causing it to enter the west-side ditch and collide with a fence. No injuries were reported, police say.
No charges were laid in either incident due to the road conditions.
“Flash freezing occurs when temperatures rapidly drop, causing damp surfaces to freeze almost instantly," police stated in a news release. "This can create hazardous road conditions as they may become icy and dangerous."
South Simcoe police are urging drivers to use extreme caution, especially on bridges and overpasses, reduce speed, avoid sudden brakes and movements, and maintain a safe following distance.
Make sure your vehicle is winter-ready and stay alert, police say.
