Ontario Provincial Police have charged two people with impaired driving over the weekend, one on the roads and one on the water.

Just before 5 p.m. on Friday, a report came in about a possible impaired driver who had “interacted with numerous vehicles and an ambulance” on Highway 12 in Tay Township.

Officers were dispatched to Assiniboia Street in Port McNicoll to speak with the driver.

That led to the following charges for a 33-year-old Port McNicoll resident:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration
  • Failure to comply with a probation order

Then just after 2 p.m. on Saturday, marine officers patrolling Penetang Bay checked a bow rider vessel with five people on board just off of Whiskey Island.

While speaking with the operator, officers suspected he might be impaired.

The operator was taken to shore where OPP say he registered three times the legal limit of alcohol.

A 62-year-old Midland man was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood-alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

And further with:

  • Having open liquor aboard a vessel (two counts) contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act
  • Fail to register a vessel upon becoming the owner contrary to the Canada Shipping Act

In addition, both lost their licences for 90 days and the vehicle in the first incident was impounded for a week.
