A 41-year-old Toronto man has been charged with stunt driving after Barrie police say he was clocked at 105 kilometres per hour in a 60-km/h zone in a delivery truck on Essa Road, Thursday afternoon.

A delivery truck driver was stopped and had his vehicle seized after Barrie police say he was caught going 105 kilometres per hour in a 60-km/h zone on Thursday in the city’s south end.

The Jan. 30 incident was a result of officers following up on a complaint from the community that identified speed-related concerns, loud vehicles and racing in the Essa and Salem roads area, according to police.

At 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, police say traffic unit officers were conducting enforcement in relation to the complaint when a delivery truck, travelling northbound on Essa Road, south of Salem Road, was pulled over for speeding.

The driver, a 41-year-old Toronto man, has been charged with stunt driving.

Police said his driver’s licence has been suspended for 30 days and the truck he was operating has been impounded for 14 days.

Police also said they wish to acknowledge the concerns identified in the complaint that was received, and yesterday’s enforcement and vehicle impoundment serves as an “excellent example” of the positive outcome that can result when the community and police work together and fully support the concept that road safety is a shared responsibility.
