Driver charged after fleeing police in New Tecumseth: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police laid charges against a 25-year-old Alliston resident Wednesday.

NEW TECUMSETH —A driver who police say fled into a residence following an attempted traffic stop Wednesday is facing numerous charges.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Jan. 1, Nottawasaga OPP says officers attempted to pull over a driver who didn’t stop at a stop sign in the area of Arnold Crescent. The driver then fled on foot into a residence in the area.

Police say officers knocked on the door and confirmed the driver was under suspension, the OPP stated in a news release. 

A 25-year-old Alliston resident has been was charged with the obstructing a peace officer, unlawfully being in a dwelling house, driving a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, failure to surrender a permit for a motor vehicle, failure to surrender an insurance card, driving while under suspension, and disobeying a stop sign/fail to stop.

None of the allegations have been tested in court. 

The vehicle will be impounded for seven days, and the accused has a Feb. 2 court date in Bradford.
