Two days after responding to a firearm call, South Bruce OPP says officers searched a home in Walkerton and found a clandestine drug lab.

The original call, an assault involving a firearm, came in on Sept. 9 at 6:19 p.m., according to police.

So far, police have only confirmed a firearm was "displayed during an assault," but noted more information would follow in a later update.

On Sept. 11, the South Bruce OPP major crimes unit enlisted the help of the West Region emergency response team and the tactics and rescue unit to search a Walkerton home. The search revealed a "suspected" clandestine drug laboratory in the home.

The discovery prompted a call to enlist more specialty units including the West Region community street crimes unit, the urban search and rescue chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives response team, and the clandestine laboratory investigative response team, with assistance from the Walkerton Fire Department, Bruce County Paramedic Services and Health Canada.

The team of specialists is still at work dismantling the lab, and expects to be on site in the area of Jackson Street and Durham Street all day today (Sept. 12).

OPP say there's no threat to public safety and the work of dismantling the lab will not disrupt vehicle traffic in the area.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at www.cstip.ca, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
