City police say it took officers 12 minutes from the time of the call to locating their suspect after a window was smashed at a business in downtown Barrie on Sunday.

Police say officers responded to a call on July 28 from the Dollarama located at 60 Dunlop St. E. for a window being shattered. The male suspect was located a short distance away and was arrested for mischief.

But it wasn't the first time they had dealt with the same man.

Last Tuesday, police say he was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000 for throwing a rock through the window of Anne’s Variety, located at 68 Dunlop St. W.

Although the incident occurred at 6:42 a.m., police say it was captured in its entirety by closed circuit television (CCTV) in the area. While police were reviewing the video, they say the same man returned to the front of the store, where he was arrested without incident.

He was later released from custody with a Sept. 9 court date at the Barrie courthouse.

"Yesterday’s investigation was heightened by a second report of a window being broken at Dunlop Convenience," police stated in a news release. "This business was located directly across the street from the original call for service and, again after utilizing CCTV, it was determined the male in custody was also responsible for breaking this window at 8:13 a.m."

In both of Sunday’s occurrences, police say the man was seen striking the windows with an object that was in his possession at the time of his arrest.

The accused has been charged with two additional charges of mischief under $5,000 for his "criminal escapade" early Sunday morning in downtown Barrie and was held in custody for a bail hearing, which is scheduled for later today.
