A driver was spotted performing a dangerous three-point turn on Highway 400 in Barrie this morning after heading the wrong way on an exit ramp.
Video obtained by BarrieToday on Wednesday shows the vehicle executing the risky manoeuvre with trucks, cars and a school bus speeding past them heading south down the highway.
After righting themselves in the proper direction, the driver continued back down the off-ramp and onto Duckworth Street.
The vehicle then turns right onto J.C. Massie Way, adjacent to the highway interchange, which appeared to be their original planned destination and which they possibly missed due to confusion.
Marilyn Hodgson and her husband captured photos and the video of the incident from their eighth-floor residence on Lakeside Terrace, which overlooks the busy highway. They said they were looking out their window and noticed the driver heading the wrong way.
Her husband exclaimed, "that’s not right!"
Hodgson happened to have her phone with her and started recording the video.
“One guy that was coming off the highway down the ramp, he actually stopped his truck and tried to wave them down, but they just kept on going,” she told BarrieToday by phone this afternoon.
“I think once they saw the sign that said no entry, they stopped and did a three-point turn that took forever,” Hodgson added.
Wrong-way drivers on this particular off-ramp is not an isolated incident by any means, according to Hodgson.
“It happens often, maybe once a day,” she explained. “When we are up on the roof we can see them, and ‘there goes another one.' They usually don’t get as far as this car today.
"It’s scary. At least they got off the road safely.”
