Update (2:15 p.m.): Provincial police say both the northbound and southbound lanes between Mapleview Drive and Innisfil Beach Road have now reopened.
Police have cleared the scene in Barrie's south end.
The OPP has yet to confirm the reason for the closure, but a spokesperson said there was no threat to public safety.
Village Media will have more information as it becomes available.
*************************
Provincial police have closed Highway 400 in both directions between Innisfil Beach Road and Mapleview Drive in Barrie for an "ongoing situation."
The OPP is asking drivers to avoid the area, in both the northbound and southbound lanes.
The closure is expected to last "several hours," according to the OPP.
Due to the ongoing investigation and what the OPP has termed an "active incident," police say southbound vehicles must exit at Mapleview Drive, while northbound vehicles must get off the highway at Innisfil Beach Road.
“We don’t have any updates yet,” Const. Scott Stratton said around noon. “It’s closed in both directions right now for an investigation.”
Once there is more information to share, it will be released, he said.
Village Media will have more details as they become available.
