TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO & ESSA TOWNSHIPS – Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges against an Innisfil resident in relation to an ongoing investigation into numerous break and enter and various thefts.
On Tuesday, June 30, 2020, members of the Nottawasaga CSCU, with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Caledon and Huronia West OPP members, and South Simcoe Police members, executed a search warrant at a residence in Innisfil. The accused was arrested and police seized various items, including stolen lottery cards and over $9,000 in Canadian currency
As a result of this investigation, 48-year-old, Eric Smith, of Innisfil, has been charged with:
- Break, enter a place - commit indictable offence, contrary to s.348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) - three counts;
- Disguise with intent, contrary to s.351(2) CC - three counts;
- Possess property obtained by crime Over $5,000, contrary to s.354(1)(a) CC - three counts;
- Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to s.733.1(1) CC - nine counts;
- Possess of ammunition contrary to prohibition order, contrary to s.117.01(1) CC; and
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to s. 354(1)(b) CC.
The accused is being held pending a bail hearing.
