Inquest dates announced following death of superjail inmate

Dr. Kenneth Peckham, regional supervising coroner, Central Region, Central West Office, has announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Robert Hardy.

Mr. Hardy, 29 years old, died on Jan. 17, 2020, at Georgian Bay General Hospital after being transferred from the Central North Correctional Centre.

An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Hardy’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last seven days and hear from approximately seven witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Dr. Richard McLean will be the presiding officer and Julian Roy will be inquest counsel.
