There is a heavy police presence around Bayfield and Heather streets in Barrie this afternoon, but few details have been released.

Update #3 (3:40 p.m.) Barrie police say they are in the process of lifting a “hold and secure” put in place earlier today at Cundles Heights Public School as a result of a gun call that prompted a large police presence in the area for most of the day.

Students who live in the areas affected by the evacuation — which includes Chestnut Court, Rosedale Place, Aspen Drive, as well as portions of Springdale Drive and Farmingdale Crescent — will not be released from the school until a parent or guardian arrives to pick them up, according to a post by Barrie police on X.

Update #2 (2:30 p.m.): Barrie police continue to negotiate with a person, possibly armed, who is holed up inside a recreational vehicle behind a Bayfield Street business Tuesday afternoon.

A BarrieToday reporter says there are as many as 20 officers on scene, some of whom a carrying high-powered weapons.

Police appear to be to focused on a large, white motorhome in a parking lot behind the Rexall pharmacy near Heather Street.

A police officer could be seen atop the police department's Rescue 1 tactical vehicle with a gun trained on the RV. There are also numerous other police vehicles in the area.

A large section of Bayfield Street is closed on one side, from Livingstone Street down toward Cundles Road, but not all the way to the Cundles intersection.

Police have also closed streets behind the scene, including part of Springdale Drive.
