Man accused of trying to steal groceries, takes express lane out of there

Barrie police are looking to identify a male who attempted to steal a cart full of groceries from the Yonge Street Zehrs location.

Upon being stopped by the store’s loss prevention staff, the male refused to wait for police to arrive.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, just after 8 p.m., a male was observed putting various items in his cart, before exiting the store, and making no attempt to pay for any of the items in the cart.

The store’s loss prevention staff approached the male outside the store and informed him that he was under arrest for theft. The suspect accompanied the staff member back into the store, but then turned and fled on foot, leaving the cart of items behind.

The suspect is described as:

  • White, male
  • Approximately 35 years of age
  • 5'6" with a medium build
  • Short dark brown hair and a thin beard and mustache
  • Wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with a Toronto Raptors logo on the front, black shorts, and white Nike sandals
