A 40-year-old Barrie man faces a slew of charges after police say he pointed a firearm at two people near a south-end Barrie school Sunday.

On Oct. 6, shortly after 8:30 p.m., officers were informed that an unknown man had just pointed a firearm and threatened a man and a youth while they were walking on a catwalk which leads to Willow Landing Public School from Pickett Crescent, according to police.

Police were provided a detailed description of the suspect, arrived at the area and immediately began a search.

At 9:41 p.m., the suspect was located in the parking lot of a nearby plaza at the northwest corner of Big Bay Point Road and Leggott Avenue, police said.

The man was taken into custody without incident and was transported to police headquarters on Fairview Road for investigation.

At the time of his arrest, an AirSoft firearm was located and seized, according to police.

The man has been charged with uttering threats to cause death, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, use of imitation firearm in commission of an indictable offence, and carrying a concealed weapon.

The suspect has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear today by video for a bail hearing at the Barrie courthouse.
