There was a heavy police presence outside a Grove Street home this morning to take a wanted man into custody.
Several unmarked police vehicles, an ambulance, another paramedic vehicle and a marked Barrie police cruiser were outside a Grove Street home earlier this morning, near the corner of Clapperton Street.
Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that a man wanted on unspecified parole violations in a jurisdiction outside the city was taken into custody without incident around 10:30 a.m.
"They knew he was there and he wasn't going anywhere," Leon said.
The matter was not a Barrie police investigation, but did involve the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) squad. City police has representation on the provincial unit.
A BarrieToday reader says she saw up to eight officers, including those in plainclothes in bulletproof vests marked with 'POLICE' outside the home around 8 a.m. One of the officers also had what "looked like a rifle" at his side.
"There was a lot of commotion," she said.
Leon said there was no risk to public safety during the course of the arrest.
