Months-long investigation leads to drug bust for Barrie police

Barrie police have charged two people following a months-long investigation by the local street crime unit.

Barrie police say officers with the street crime unit seized about 2.5 kilograms of cocaine, oxycondone pills and MDMA (ecstasy) following a months-long drug investigation.

Two Barrie residents — a 32-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman — were arrested on Monday, Dec. 4 following an investigation by the street crime unit.

Officers executed five search warrants under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). Police did not provide any locations. 

The two suspects have been charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of an illegal substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.

Police say they also seized a "large quantity" of Canadian cash and two vehicles. 

Both of the accused were released from custody with a future court date. Their names were not released.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
