New detachment commander named at Nottawasaga OPP

TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO & ESSA TOWNSHIPS – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is pleased to formally announce that Inspector Steve Ridout has been appointed as the Detachment Commander. Inspector Ridout has served our community for the past 12 months as the interim Detachment Commander.

During his tenure as the interim Detachment Commander, Inspector Ridout recognized the importance of raising public awareness on the opioid crisis as a public health issue and on mental health, with an emphasis on the community resources that are available. As such, Inspector Ridout spearheaded successful public awareness campaigns to provide education and reduce stigma on these important issues. His leadership is very evident by his at Inspector participation in our many community events that take place within the detachment area, including charity hockey games with local high school students, annual Shop with a Cop event, and supporting School Resource Officers by attending various school events.

Inspector Steve Ridout has been a member of the Ontario Provincial Police for over 25 years and brings a wide range of experience to his new position. Inspector Ridout is originally from the Belleville area and is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University. Inspector Ridout also holds a MBA from York University.

He has served as a general patrol officer, patrol supervisor and fraud investigator. Inspector Ridout was promoted to the rank of Inspector in 2012 and has held executive positions with the OPP in the Canadian Firearms Program, the Pan Am Games Security and Central Region Headquarters. Inspector Ridout has called the Simcoe County area his home for the past 25 years and has been very involved in the community with his spouse and three children.
