Barrie Fire and Emergency Services extinguished a small fire inside a unit in an apartment complex on Edgehill Drive on Oct. 1, 2024.

A Tuesday afternoon fire that saw residents of an Edgehill Drive apartment evacuated started in the kitchen, according to Barrie fire officials.

“We concluded a small investigation and turned the building back over last night before crews left,” Assistant Deputy Chief Eric MacFadden told BarrieToday.

“Just the one person was displaced due to the damage in the apartment. It was a small fire that started in kitchen (and was) contained to the kitchen," he said, adding there was smoke throughout the rest of the apartment.

Crews were called to the building — located at the base of the Anne Street hill — around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The resident of the unit has since been treated and released from local hospital, MacFadden noted.

No damage estimate has been determined.
