OPP mum on details, investigating incident at Penetang mall

Incident took place Thursday behind Village Square Mall; OPP not releasing details, but say 'there is no threat to public safety'

Provincial police are investigating an incident that took place on Thursday at about 4 p.m. behind the Village Square Mall in Penetanguishene.

"Southern Georgian Bay OPP is currently conducting an investigation. At this time, we are asking the public to stay clear of this area," said Southern Georgian Bay OPP Const. Dave Hobson.

"There is no threat to public safety," Hobson added.

According to a report from CTV, one person was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

On social media, people reported hearing gunshots and some said a Ford F150 was seen fleeing the scene.

Police aren't releasing any details, but Hobson said an update is expected later today.
