There is an ongoing investigation into a social media 'threat' at Orchard Park Public School in Orillia.
While there are few details being made public at this time, OPP Const. Brett Boniface says the Orillia detachment is working with their partners at the Simcoe County District School Board on the matter.
“There will be an increased presence of police in the area to ensure safety,” he said. “The Ontario Provincial Police takes all public safety threats seriously and provides resources necessary to assess and respond to such threats.”
Boniface says the priority is the safety of the school’s students, staff, and the entire school community. Anyone who believes there is a threat to school safety should call 911 immediately.
Orchard Park Public School's principal declined to comment for this publication.
However, in an email sent to parents last night, the principal stated the school was made aware of a "post on Snapchat concerning a potential threat to the school community."
The school notified police immediately.
"We expect continued police presence throughout the day ... to maintain a safe learning environment for our students."
