A 20-year-old Orillia man was killed last night in Ramara Township.

Police say a vehicle struck a pedestrian at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night on Highway 12 South near Sideroad 15.

"The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene," Orillia OPP said in a media release. The man's name was not released.

Orillia OPP Const. Derek Tilley said it's not certain where the male was at the time of the collision "but preliminary reports state the pedestrian was in the centre of the road."

Tilley said no charges have been laid.

"Our traffic team along with the investigating officer will consult once all the reports are complete to decide if any charges will be laid," said Tilley.

Highway 12 South was closed for several hours for the investigation and has since been re-opened.

"Pedestrians are encouraged to wear bright, light-coloured clothing or reflective strips, especially in low-light or dark conditions," noted the media release. "Drivers are reminded to always be on the lookout for pedestrians and animals when driving."

No other information was provided.
