Police cordon off second scene as homicide investigation continues (update)

Officers are at a second scene on Marcus Street

Barrie Police are treating the discovery of the bodies of two deceased males at a house on William Street this morning as a double homicide.

Two men who lived in one of the two units were found dead with obvious signs of trauma.

"Barrie Police received two 911 calls at about 3:20 a.m. from a residence on William Street. They did come from within the house.  At this time we're not releasing who they were called in by," said Const. Nicole Rodgers at a news conference at Police Headquarters.

"It is a multi-unit house and where the deceased were found was in a single unit," said Rodgers.

Officers have also cordoned off a second scene with police tape on Marcus Street.

Yellow markers line the driveway and continue up the front steps of the home where blood is visible on the front door.

Peter, who lives across the street, says a woman and a 'young guy' live on the main floor and tenants rent the basement.

"The people upstairs have been there for a while, about four years. I saw the lady leave this morning. A young guy lives there, probably early twenties," he said.

"The basement people it changes all the time. Every couple of months."

Rodgers couldn't comment on whether police had been called to the William Street address home in the past.

But one neighbour believes the deaths might be related to drug activity.

"People were coming and going all the time," said Alex Mathes, who believes one of the victims had children who would visit.

Police aren't releasing the names, ages or relationship between the two victims pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators are canvassing the neighbourhood around William Street, Burton Avenue and Bayview Drive for witnesses or any surveillance camera video from businesses or homes.

"Anything in the surrounding area gives us an idea of timeline or traffic," said Rodgers. "With this being something that occurred between 2:30 and 3:30 in the morning, there's not a lot of heavy traffic which gives us some good information if we're able to capture anything."
