South Simcoe Police Service officers want the public to be aware of a large seizure in our community of a suspected drug known as purple heroin.

On Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, traffic officers conducted a RIDE stop in Innisfil which resulted in a foot chase after the driver fled. A search subsequent to his arrest revealed a substantial quantity of suspected heroin, cocaine, crystal meth and cannabis.

Among the drugs seized was 96 grams of purple heroin, a dangerous street drug commonly made from fentanyl and/or carfentanil and heroin and depending on the purity could contain several hundred lethal doses of fentanyl.

Fentanyl is 100 times stronger than morphine and 40 times stronger than heroin. Carfentanil is 100 times more potent than fentanyl and 10,000 times more so than morphine. A fatal dose of fentanyl and carfentanil can be as little as two milligrams.

The South Simcoe Police Service is concerned about the continued increase of drugs in our community and wants to make the public aware of the dangers of drug use, and particularly opiods such as those recovered during this investigation.

"It is troubling to see a seizure of this magnitude and the deadly combination of the drugs seized during this arrest. Thankfully, with this seizure, we potentially removed hundreds of fatal doses from the streets and the eliminated the devastating impact it has on families throughout our communities," said South Simcoe Police Service Chief Andrew Fletcher.

The other suspected drugs seized include 20 grams of crystal meth, over 180 grams of cocaine and more than 460 grams of marijuana, and officers also
seized a quantity of cash. A 29-year-old Innisfil man is facing numerous charges.
