City police are investigating after a person was attacked in a plaza parking lot near downtown Barrie this morning.

Police said they received a call this morning (Nov. 18) at approximately 7:30 a.m. regarding an assault in progress in the area of Anne and Dunlop streets.

Upon arrival, police say one victim was located and transported to a local hospital with what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing an anyone with information is asked to contact police.

"More details will be provided as the investigation permits,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator Jennett Mays told BarrieToday.

A pair of officers could be seen discussing and pointing out trails of blood spatter on the asphalt pavement of the plaza, and placing cones as they continued their investigation.

Articles of clothing, a sleeping bag and other debris were also scattered about the scene.

Mays said the scene was cleared around 11:30 a.m.
