A five-year-old boy reported missing from Montreal has been found in Vaughan on Tuesday morning.

York Regional Police confirmed the boy, who was the subject of an Amber Alert, was found in the municipality. Ontario Provincial Police state the boy was found safe at a residence.

Quebec provincial police say he was unharmed and will be returned to the province.

They say authorities are questioning a 65-year-old woman alleged to have taken him from Brossard, Que., just south of Montreal.

The alert was issued around 4 a.m. as the boy and the woman were travelling in a Tesla Model 3 with Ontario licence plates.

Ontario Provincial Police were informed about the Amber Alert early on with the assumption the pair were heading to that province.

An Amber Alert is triggered when a child has been reported abducted and is believed to be in danger.
