The South Simcoe Police Service will be honouring our fallen heroes: Const. Morgan Russell, Const. Devon Northrup and Const. Alan Kuzmich.
Constables Russell and Northrup tragically lost their lives on Oct. 11, 2022, while responding to a disturbance call.
Constable Kuzmich was killed in the line of duty on Aug. 21, 2002, while responding to a motorcycle theft.
Throughout this month, our officers will take part in various public events to pay tribute to the lives and sacrifices of Morgan, Devon, and Alan.
Local Kick-Off Memorial ‘Run to Remember’

This local kick-off to the Canadian National Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial ‘Run to Remember’ provides an opportunity for service members, along with their families and friends, to honour Morgan, Devon, and Alan through a run/walk in our community. The event will begin at the South Division in Bradford and will include a moment of silence at both the new Constable Devon Northrup Memorial Park and the Alan Kuzmich Memorial Park, named in memory of fallen South Simcoe Police Service officer Constable Alan Kuzmich. While participation is limited to service members, community members are encouraged to show their support by lining the route to honour our fallen heroes.
Canadian National Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial ‘Ride To Remember’

Depart 7 a.m.
Members of the South Simcoe Police Service will be taking part in the annual ‘Ride to Remember,’ departing from the Ontario Police College in Aylmer on September 25, 2024. Riders will make their way to the Ontario Police Memorial in Toronto, where they will join the official kick-off for the Run/Ride to Remember on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Our five-member ‘Ride to Remember’ team will cover 700 kilometres to honour Devon, Morgan, Alan, and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their community.

Start 6:45 a.m.
The Memorial ‘Run to Remember’ begins at the Ontario Police Memorial in Toronto on Thursday, September 26, 2024, and concludes at the National Police Memorial in Ottawa on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024. This run honors officers who lost their lives in service to their communities and raises awareness for the Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Annual Memorial Service on Parliament Hill on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024. Covering 460 kilometres, the event also generates funds through t-shirt sales and donations collected by runners, which will go toward SOLE (Survivors of Law Enforcement).
Canadian National Police and Peace Officers’ 46th Annual Memorial Service

A group of members from the South Simcoe Police Service will participate in the Canadian National Police and Peace Officers’ 46th Annual Memorial Service in Ottawa on Sept. 29, 2024. At this event, the names of Morgan, Devon, and Alan will be honoured as they are read from the National Honour Roll of Fallen Officers.
On Sept. 24, 1988, the Government of Canada officially designated the last Sunday in September as Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day. This day allows Canadians to formally recognize and appreciate the commitment of police and peace officers who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their communities.
