It has been six months since two people were shot on Bayfield Street and the suspect still remains at large.
Despite an arrest warrant being issued March 3, Barrie police are still trying to hunt down the alleged shooter.
Zia Mohammed Chaudhry, who was 18 years old at the time, is being sought in connection to the Feb. 15 double shooting on Bayfield Street near Grove Street.
Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon says it's worrisome when a search goes on this long.
“There is always a level of concern when a person who is (allegedly) responsible for a serious criminal investigation remains outstanding,” Leon told BarrieToday. “There was information that he may have left the area and was in Montreal (as of April), but he has not been arrested as of yet.
"His exact whereabouts remains unknown," Leon added.
Police were called to a home in the area of Bayfield and Grove street around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15 after receiving reports of a shooting.
Two male victims, believed to be in their 20s, were airlifted to Toronto-area trauma centres where they were originally listed in serious but stable condition. While one victim was reportedly released from hospital, Leon said he believed the other victim has also since been discharged.
No details have been released about the relationship between the suspect and the victims.
Chaudhry is wanted on charges of attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent, and two counts of aggravated assault. He is described as having a brown skin tone, standing approximately five-foot-10 and weighing 180 pounds with a thin build, straight black hair and brown eyes.
Police say Chaudhry, who is known to frequent Barrie and Toronto and is known by the street name 'Tray' or 'Trey', is considered armed and dangerous. Members of the public are advised not to approach him, but rather to call police if spotted.
The investigation is ongoing. Investigators are asking anyone who may have information or who may have been in the area around the time of the shooting to contact Barrie police at 705-725-7025, ext. 2131.
