South Simcoe police select new deputy chief

At its Board meeting today, the [Bradford West Gwillimbury]/Innisfil Police Services Board announced the appointment of John Van Dyke as Deputy Chief of Police, effective Jan. 1 2021.

“The board is pleased to appoint John Van Dyke as Deputy Chief,” said Board Chair, Licinio Miguelo. “John brings proven experience in strategic management, leadership and will be an asset to the organization as we continue to serve the communities with compassion and excellence.”

John Van Dyke has served 31 years in policing, having been in South Simcoe his entire career, starting with the then Bradford Police Service, now the South Simcoe PS. John has served in a variety of roles including front line patrol, investigations and professional standards.

In addition, Van Dyke is a member of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Professional Standards/SIU Committee and is a graduate of the Police Leadership Program at the Rotman School of Management.

“I am honoured, privileged and humbled to serve our organization and the residents of Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil,” said incoming Deputy Police Chief, John Van Dyke.

“I thank the board for having faith in me and I’m excited about enhancing the many existing positive relationships between the service and its two communities. I also look forward to building on the Service’s past achievements in community safety and continuing to encourage high standards of performance and commitment to continuous improvement to meet the demands of the future.”

Chief Andrew Fletcher said, “I look forward to working with Deputy Chief Van Dyke and am pleased to see the board find a suitable candidate from within the organization. I know John will carry on the excellent contributions he has made over the past 31 years and build on the strong relationships he has with the organization and community."

Van Dyke has lived in the area all his life and has strong roots in the community. John was born and raised in Bradford and has been active in his church while also finding time to sit on community boards and coach his children in a variety of sports.

John maintains a healthy lifestyle through physical fitness and in his spare time he enjoys reading, watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
