SUV leaves scene after crash injures scooter driver in Barrie: police (update)

A motorized scooter lies on its side after a multi-vehicle collision at Caroline and Innisfil streets in Barrie on Thursday afternoon. The operator of the scooter suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Update (4:39 p.m.): Barrie police say the scooter operator suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. 

Police also say the SUV driver who fled was located soon after and faces multiple charges. There is no word yet on the specific charges.

ORIGINAL STORY

City police are investigating after a multi-vehicle crash in central Barrie this afternoon, with one driver leaving the scene.

At 12:23 p.m. on July 4, police received the call, which involved two SUVs and a motorized scooter near Caroline and Innisfil streets.

One SUV struck the other vehicles and left the scene, according to Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon.

As the investigation is in its early stages, there is no word on charges.

The individual operating the scooter was attended to by paramedics and transported to local hospital.
