Teen crashes stolen car in Barrie's south end: police

Police say vehicle was stolen from outside gas station in Big Bay Point Road and Yonge Street area just before 1 a.m., then crashed on Pine Drive

A 16-year-old Barrie resident is facing charges after allegedly stealing a car and taking it for a joyride early this morning.

According to Barrie police, the teen stole the vehicle from outside a gas station in the Big Bay Point Road and Yonge Street area just before 1 a.m. on Jan. 3.  

A few minutes later, police say they received a report that the stolen vehicle had been involved in a collision on Pine Drive, just south of Big Bay Point Road.

The driver reportedly sustained minor injuries and was assessed at the scene by Simcoe County paramedics.

The teen has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
