'They were pulling people out on stretchers'

Barrie police focused on two scenes on Dunlop and Collier streets' 'The situation is fluid,' says police official

Barrie police have cordoned off parts of downtown for an ongoing investigation Monday morning, but few specifics are being released.

Investigators are currently on scene in the area of Dunlop Street East on the north side from Clapperton Street, and there's also a second scene located at 24 Collier St., which is Trinity Anglican Church.

A woman who identified herself as Kelly, a resident across the street on Dunlop, said she witnessed the aftermath.

“At around 8:30 a.m., paramedics and police showed up and they were pulling people out on stretchers. They were coming out of the apartment's entrance beside Donaleigh's," she told BarrieToday

Another witness at the scene said there was a serious altercation this morning.

"As far as I can tell, it was involving addictions and fights and a possible death," he said. "They were fighting over drugs. We've got to clean this street up.”

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said few details are being released.

"The situation is fluid with the investigation ongoing," he said around 11 a.m.

Leon was unable confirm any injuries or their severity.

BarrieToday will have more information as it becomes available.
