Barrie police are investigating after a Letitia Heights resident awoke Thursday morning to find his pickup truck had been stolen. Not only that, but the steering wheel locking device had been cut in half and discarded in the driveway.

Officers responded to the Fox Run home, near Leacock and Edgehill drives, at 6:20 a.m. on May 30.

The truck is described as a blue, 2022 Ram 1500.

The vehicle was last seen at approximately 9:30 p.m. the night before.

Officers canvassed homes in the neighbourhood, but police say there was no video surveillance located in the immediate area.

Police are reminding the public that vehicle thefts are continuing to take place and, although attempts were made to prevent this theft from happening, "opportunistic thieves" are still finding ways to commit their crimes.

"If there is the availability of second motor vehicle in your family, you are encouraged to use it as a blocker to prevent a future theft," city police stated in a news release.

This means parking the vehicle as close as possible to a potentially sought-after vehicle.

"Your efforts may just help to keep your property in your hands and not in the hands of those who has chosen to participate in conducting criminal activity in our community," say police.

City police have previously said vehicles that have been targeted by thieves in the Barrie area have been RAM pickups, Toyota Highlanders, Lexus RX models, Ford F-150s and Ford Broncos.
