Two 16-year-olds have been charged in relation to a robbery that took place in north-end Barrie early Monday morning.
On Aug. 3 at about 1 a.m., Barrie police received a call from a citizen who was approached in a plaza parking lot at St. Vincent Street and Cundles Road by two males.
“They said they had a firearm and they wanted his car,” said Peter Leon, communications co-ordinator for Barrie police. “The owner of the vehicle was able to get in and drive away, at which time he contacted us.”
While police were in the area patrolling for the suspects, officers were approached by two people at the Cundles Road and Duckworth Street plaza who had been robbed of their belongings and their vehicle.
“They had brandished a firearm and relieved them of their belongings,” said Leon.
About an hour later, the vehicle was located by police travelling on Mapleview Drive. The vehicle merged onto Highway 400, travelling southbound.
“The vehicle failed to stop for police and as it exited the highway at Innisfil Beach Road, it left the roadway and went into the ditch where it came to rest on its side,” said Leon.
Police seized an imitation firearm from the vehicle.
Police arrested and charged two 16-year-old males from Barrie with two counts of robbery, one count of attempting to commit robbery, and the driver was additionally charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from a peace officer.
The two suspects were held for a bail hearing.
