Victim of Highway 400 collision identified

Two unrelated incidents had the highway closed in both directions for several hours

A fatality was reported in last evening’s multi-vehicle collision on Highway 400 near Rutherford Rd.

Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt today via Twitter identified the deceased as Benjamin Portis, aged 56 from North York.

In another unrelated incident that also occurred Thursday evening on Highway 400, the driver of a transport truck involved in the dangerous goods incident has been charged with having an unsecured load.

This occurrence resulted in a Highway 400 closure between County Road 88 and Highway 9 that lasted several hours.
