An incident involving a speeding truck that crashed in a residential neighbourhood in south-end Barrie on Saturday was caught on video.
Saturday’s dramatic crash, which destroyed the fence at a home at the corner of Hurst Drive and Golden Meadow Road, was recorded by a driver who was passed by the vehicle shortly before noon.
Dashcam video was captured by Barrie resident Jesse Wiley, who told BarrieToday the incident was “crazy” to witness.
“I was in my work truck heading down Hurst and I started to hear this truck coming from behind me,” Wiley said.
The video shows the pick-up truck flying past Wiley’s vehicle using the turning lane on Hurst Drive.
The truck goes out of sight as it heads toward Golden Meadow Road. Wiley then accelerates after realizing it had crashed.
“You can hear the camera say something and that's because I hit the manual recording button to ensure I’d save the footage,” said Wiley. “I drove up to the scene and ran over to make sure everyone was OK.
"I don’t know how someone wasn’t killed because it was such a nice day and people are always out walking, plus there's a park across the road," he added.
Police said the driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.
“I don’t know how no one was killed or injured, including the driver,” said Barrie police communications co-ordinator Pete Leon.
