VIDEO: Truck window smashed in south end, leaving homeowner confused

'We are on the lookout for the individual who did this and, more than anything, I really just want to know why,' says Barrie resident
An act of mischief in the city's south end has one resident looking for answers and justice.

Shortly before 8 p.m., on Jan. 7, the windows on Brandon Find’s pickup truck were smashed by an unknown person at his home in the Mapleton Avenue and Veterans Drive area.

“We noticed the next day when my wife and I tried to take our three kids to daycare and school,” Find told BarrieToday. “We didn’t notice before that.”

Find says he can’t tell if he knows the person in the surveillance footage, but says he believes this was no random act.

“It was targeted, as far as I can tell,” he said. “No one else (had their property) vandalized.

"My house is a corner lot under two street lights, very visible," he added. "The individual hangs around waiting for the opportunity to do this.”

Find admits the incident changed how he and his family live, and he's much more vigilant with his security.

“We constantly check the cameras now and we’re investing in a much more expensive system,” Find said. “We are on the lookout for the individual who did this and, more than anything, I really just want to know why.

"This was deliberate. The person had to get something to use to smash the windows, walk to my home, wait a few minutes then commit a crime," he added. "There was lots of time to calm down and rethink this course of action.”

The incident was reported to city police.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Jennett Mays said she couldn't comment too much on the incident, but told BarrieToday that it's a good thing that surveillance footage is becoming more prevalent in these types of crimes.

“Mischief is always a concern in any community, but with more home security cameras and more media coverage, people are becoming more aware of these incidents,” Mays said.
