NEWS RELEASE
BARRIE POLICE SERVICE
*************************
The Barrie Police Service has been in existence since 1853 and is proud to have the distinction of being the second oldest active police service in the province of Ontario.

We are here to create a supportive environment to provide proactive and responsive policing services.

If you have ever wanted to know more about what the Barrie Police Service does to keep our community safe, now is the time. Join us for an eight-week Citizen Police Academy to learn how your police service is ‘committed to our community.’

Representatives from various police units will share information in their area of expertise, including training, forensic identification, marine, traffic, mobile crisis and response team, K9, human trafficking, homicide and tactical support.

These informative sessions of the Citizen Police Academy will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, and continue each Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a graduation event being held on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Class size will be limited to 20 participants, with preference being given to applicants who reside in the City of Barrie. Successful candidates will be required to successfully pass a police background check due to the sensitive nature of the material that will be presented.

To qualify, interested applicants must be:

  • 18 years of age or older;
  • have no criminal record; and
  • of good moral character.

All interested candidates should contact Const. Kelvin He at [email protected] to learn more and apply by Sept. 9, 2024.
