A 27-year-old woman faces numerous charges after a chase by Barrie police ended in a collision with a police cruiser, along with another vehicle, in the city’s south end on Saturday morning.

On Dec. 14, shortly before 9:15 a.m., an officer was on general patrol when he observed a vehicle being operated erratically. As the officer attempted to pull over what was believed to be an impaired driver, the driver sped off, according to police.

Officers followed the vehicle, and numerous attempts were made to safely stop it as it continued to be operated dangerously.

According to police, the driver failed to remain after colliding with a sport utility vehicle at Essa Road and Innisfil Street, and struck a marked police cruiser at Cityview Circle and Ferndale Drive South.

Police were able to locate the vehicle a short distance away in a parking lot and later confirmed the whereabouts of the female driver.

Uniformed officers, assisted by the Tactical Support Unit and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Unit, attended a residence located in the Essa Road and Loggers Run area where the woman was taken into custody.

The accused was transported to police headquarters on Fairview Road where the investigation continued and the woman was formally charged with several driving related offences and a drug possession charge, according to police.

Police said they also executed an outstanding arrest warrant, and the woman was held in custody for a bail hearing at the Barrie courthouse.
