As families start to get back to their post-holiday activities, Glowing Hearts Charity is excited to announce the launch of a new opportunity for children…the Simcoe Youth Choir!
Board Director, Judy Cathcart, says that, “Glowing Hearts believes that all children and youth should be able to experience the benefits and rewards of being included in music programs, and we are incredibly excited to help fill this need in the community. Even though Barrie is located centrally and is the largest city in Simcoe County, there currently aren’t any other community-based youth choirs in the city.”
What makes the Simcoe Youth Choir unique is that if a family needs financial assistance, this 12-week program is completely free, and for those who have the means, the fee is just $60.
All about fun, learning, community, and connection, participants will love learning contemporary pieces in a variety of styles, tailored to the singers in the group. This community choir is inclusive and open to all children in grades 3 to 8. As interest grows, Glowing Hearts Charity plans to split the choir into two or more groups.
Starting on January 23rd, rehearsals with choir director, Cynda Fleming, will take place at Hillcrest Public School in the library on Mondays from 6:30-7:30pm.
Cynda is a musician, conductor, and composer based in Toronto with strong family roots in the Barrie area, who is excited to share her passion with youth in Simcoe County. She has a Bachelor of Music, a Bachelor of Education (with teaching qualifications in vocal and instrumental music), a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance, and a Master of Music in Education. She previously studied the Kodály Method in London, England, and is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of Toronto where she has also studied vocal and advanced conducting courses.
