There’s no doubt that people have been spending more time in their kitchens as pandemic lockdown measures restricted social activities outside the home. Now the mandates appear to be easing, it’s a good time for people to leave their own kitchen behind for one offering patrons in Oro Medonte a unique fine dining experience.
That place is actually called The Ktchn, an upscale fine dining restaurant located off Horseshoe Valley Road at Oro Medonte’s popular Braestone Club. Regardless of how good your own culinary and hosting skills may be, The Ktchn is here to offer patrons something more than mom’s signature meatloaf.
“We designed The Ktchn with three things in mind,” said Sarah Keith, Director of Hospitality and Events for corporate owners Georgian International. “Atmosphere. Service. And food. Our goal is always to make sure we’re delivering a high level with each of those elements.”
The Ktchn has certainly excelled in all three areas. The restaurant/clubhouse was purposefully curated to offer a warm, inviting, almost homey ambience for both fine diners coming for an elegant evening escape and golfers stepping off the course for a casual lunch. Fashioned by Ashley Montgomery Designs, the interior boasts two fireplaces, vintage repurposed and handmade furnishings, rustic harvest tables and walls adorned with custom art pieces crafted by Canadian artists. Additionally, The Ktchn offers sweeping views of Braestone’s 18th hole complete with lush landscaping and an enormous patio complete with an outdoor fireplace. If you’re deciding on where to enjoy your first dining destination as you emerge from your Covid cocoon, The Ktchn should definitely be your first choice according to Keith.
“We’re trying to be the best we can in our province,” she said. “We were just named to the Top 100 Most Romantic Destinations in Canada. We want you to enjoy a special experience, whether you’re coming to golf or to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or something equally special. You will always enjoy that high level atmosphere and quality food experience.”
Not to be outdone by the great atmosphere, The Ktchn menu is definitely an attraction on its own. Under the direction of Executive Chef Taylor Dow, signature dishes at The KTCHN include duck, venison, tomahawk steaks, and fresh sorbets made in house. The restaurant also offers a variety of tasting menus, Scotch dinners, and wine pairing experiences for people looking for more than typical menu fare.
With spring on the horizon, Keith says The Ktchn will once again be offering live entertainment Thursday through Sunday along with a fully serviced patio for après golf activities or outdoor dining pleasure. Staff have been going through ongoing training during the pandemic to be ready for the day when the restaurant can welcome its full capacity of 140.
“We’ve gone through multiple lockdowns and at the end of the day we’re just thrilled to be able to have more people in our space,” said Keith. “Our staff is well-prepared. We’ve been refining our menus and refining our service style. We’ve had lots of time to prepare for this moment and we’re excited to be welcoming people back.”
