Skewers is the newest downtown eatery, but one that is completely different than what you’re used to.
The new walk-in eatery on Clapperton Street has been open for less than two weeks, but owner Luke Michorowski is happy with business already.
“We have a couple people who are here every day almost. They love the food and have spread the word like crazy for us,” Michorowski told BarrieToday. “We even had a few people ask if they could hand out some of our flyers.
"It is really nice to see the support so soon," he added.
Michorowski and his business partner have been involved in building restaurants and supplying the equipment for the last 10 years.
The Alcona resident says he knew he wanted to be involved in getting healthy food out there to people looking for a quick bite to eat.
With lots of food options to choose from downtown, Michorowski says Skewers is a different take for the walk-in crowd.
“It definitely is a unique experience here in Barrie, but around the world this Korean-style barbecue is very popular,” he said. “There are a few popping up in Toronto and there are thousands in Korea. They are just everywhere over there.”
The menu includes a number of grilled items for the skewer with an option of many toppings. Pork, chicken, shrimp, beef and even dumpling are cooked up by Michorowski.
And for those looking for a side dish, rice, French fries and salads are just a few options.
Skewers hopes to appeal to everyone, but the workout crowd will benefit from the menu particularly.
“I like to look after myself and so I know what others may be wanting,” said Michorowski. “The protein-on-the-go option is something I would love as a hungry and busy person, but those looking for carbs, we have that here as well.”
Skewers is located at 9 Clapperton St.
