The deadline for nominations has come and gone with Elections Ontario for people to put their names forward.
Locally, according to the Elections Ontario website as of 3 p.m., there are six candidates each in both Barrie-Innisfil and Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte (BSOM).
Barrie-Innisfil's candidates include the Green Party's Stephen Cieselski, the New Democratic Party's Andrew Harrigan, Progressive Conservative incumbent Andrea Khanjin, the Liberal Party's Dane Lee, New Blue's Sam Mangiapane, and the Ontario Moderate Party's Anna Yuryeva.
Meanwhile, BSOM's slate of candidates includes New Blue's Alex Della Ventura, Progressive Conservative incumbent Doug Downey, the Greens' Tim Grant, the NDP's Tracey Lapham, Libertarian Erin Patterson, and the Liberals' Rose Zacharias.
Prospective candidates had until 2 p.m. today to file their nomination paperwork with Elections Ontario.
The provincial election will take place Feb. 27.
Barrie-Innisfil covers 382 square kilometres and has 120,208 residents, according to Elections Ontario, while Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte spans 1,018 square kilometres and has a population of 107,127 people.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Simcoe-Grey, the five candidates are the Liberals' Ted Crysler, New Blue's David Ghobrial, the Greens' Allan Kuhn, PC incumbent Brian Saunderson, and the NDP's Benten Tinkler.
