The Barrie community has a shining example of dedication in this year’s recipient of the Young Leader Award.
A dedicated member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association Barrie Chapter, Ihtisham Ahmed Rana has consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to uplifting those around him.
“I was pleasantly surprised to hear that I had won the Community Builders Award,” shared Rana when we told him of his win.
“The dedicated volunteers of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) worked tirelessly alongside me on every initiative. We were fulfilling our duties to give back to society and didn’t expect any recognition,” shared Rana.
“This award acknowledges the difference the Barrie Chapter of the AMYA is making as a team of young volunteers. While I may have appeared in interviews and photos, many volunteers selflessly dedicated their time to serve our community. As Ahmadi Muslims, we view humanitarian service as a form of worship,” Rana went on to say.
As co-organizer of the second annual Run for Barrie Charity Run, Rana played a pivotal role in its success, even in challenging weather conditions.
“The Run for Barrie was a proud accomplishment for me, as I had never organized a charity run before,” stated Rana.
His efforts to raise funds for the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) Foundation’s Keep Life Wild campaign showcase his dedication to community well-being.
“With the support of experienced brothers and city officials, we raised $7,000 for the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.”
Rana’s ability to inspire volunteers and participants highlights his exceptional leadership qualities.
His positive attitude fosters camaraderie, ensuring events not only succeed but also build community spirit.
Rana believes in making a positive impact as a fundamental duty, encapsulated in his words: “We don’t do this to do any favours, we do this because it’s our duty.”
“I’ll keep volunteering for various AMYA initiatives, whether it’s blood drives, charity runs, or interfaith events,” Rana continues. “I encourage more youth to serve. I invite anyone to visit the Maryam Mosque in Oro-Medonte to learn more about our initiatives and Islam Ahmadiyya.”
Rana shared a final thought, “In today’s material world, it can be challenging to reflect on our true purpose and the peace our souls seek. Engaging in interactions and dialogues helps us build bridges and contribute to a more inclusive society. I encourage youth to get involved and experience the countless benefits first-hand.”
Rana exemplifies the qualities of a young leader dedicated to strengthening his community, and his continued efforts promise a lasting positive impact on Barrie and beyond.
The Young Leader Award goes to an individual or group, under 25 years of age, actively involved in community service in any one of the Community Builders categories. Recipients, like Ihtisham, show a commitment to making their community better for others.
